History
İnegöl köfte are small, oval grilled meatballs made only from minced beef and lamb, onion, salt and a little soda or bread, with no spices, so the taste of the meat is the point. They come from İnegöl, a town in Bursa Province. The story says they were first made in the early 20th century by Mustafa Efendi, one of the Turks who moved to İnegöl from the Balkans, and the town has dozens of köfte restaurants on its main street. They are served with grilled peppers, onion and piyaz, a bean salad, and the town holds a köfte festival. İnegöl köftesi has a registered geographical indication.
