History
The full English breakfast grew from the large breakfasts of the country house in the Victorian era, when gentry showed off the produce of their estates. In the 20th century it spread to workers' cafés and seaside guest houses. A classic plate has bacon, sausages, fried or scrambled eggs, black pudding, grilled tomato, mushrooms, toast or fried bread and baked beans, with tea. Each part of Britain and Ireland has its own: the Scottish add tattie scones and haggis, the Welsh laverbread and cockles, and Northern Ireland soda and potato breads. It is often eaten as a weekend treat or a cure for a hangover.
