History
Pique macho is a huge plate of bite-sized beef and sausage pieces cooked with onions, tomato and hot locoto peppers, served over French fries and topped with boiled eggs. It comes from Cochabamba, and it is meant to be shared. A local story says it was invented in the 1970s at a restaurant where late-night customers asked for something filling and spicy, and that the name dares them: you are macho if you can eat it all; versions of the story differ. It is now popular across Bolivia, often with beer at night, and every restaurant has its own spicy sauce. Smaller portions are simply called pique.
